Welcome!

The Doctoral Convention is, according to §38 paragraph 7 Landeshochschulgesetz as well as resolution of the KIT Senate of 17.11.2014, the association of all doctoral researchers accepted at the KIT Deparment of Informatics. It actively supports the interests of doctoral researchers. This includes in particular better, comparable, and transparent conditions for doctoral studies at KIT, independent of contract situation and place of work.

The Convention sees itself as a contact for doctoral researchers in all phases of the doctorate. The Convention also supports those who strive for a doctorate at the KIT Department of Informatics but are not accepted as doctoral candidates. Furthermore, the Convention informs its members about relevant events and developments in the Department and at KIT as a whole.

The organs of the Convention are the General Assembly and a Board, which is elected by the General Assembly from among its members. The Board consists of three to five persons. The Board represents the Convention externally and in KIT bodies. It represents the decisions of the General Assembly and the opinion of its doctoral students. Furthermore, the board is in active exchange with the boards of the other KIT departments.

The tasks of the Convention include

  • Active advocacy for the interests of doctoral students of the KIT Deparment of Informatics, in particular for the purpose of better, comparable and transparent conditions for doctoral studies at KIT, irrespective of the contractual situation and place of work
  • Function as contact person for doctoral students in all phases of the doctorate, especially in case of problems
  • Supporting those persons who aspire to a doctorate at the KIT Department of Informatics but are not accepted as doctoral researchers
  • Establishment of a dialogue between the organs of KIT and the doctoral students
  • Advising on questions concerning doctoral students and making recommendations to the KIT organs.
  • Representing the opinion of doctoral students and commenting on drafts of doctoral regulations
  • Informing its members about relevant events and developments

In case of questions or problems, doctoral researchers can contact the Board at any time. Currently the Board consists of the following persons:

  • Joshua Bachmeier (chairman)
  • Nikolai Maas (vice chairman)
  • Peter Maucher (assessor)
  • Marcel Tiepelt (assessor)
  • Claudius Holeksa (assessor)

The board can be contacted by e-mail: informatik-doktoranden-vorstand@lists.kit.edu.
